It's made with a generous helping of cheese and rich vegemite, and it's domino's newest "original recipe" pizza. The Cheesy Vegemite Pizza is limited edition so is only around for 3 weeks or until it sells out.
Adding a flavour like Vegemite to a Pizza base is something that sounds iconically Australian. But is a whole pizza of the bitter topping just going too far?
After all part of the appeal and even a rule of thumb for the breakfast spread is to have it in moderation, lightly spread over a sandwich or piece of toast. But one of the funniest things is watching someone whos never had it before spread it on as thick as peanut butter and the glorious reaction that follows when they take their first bite.
Dominos Australia said on an Instagram post "There's something so quintessentially Aussie about a VEGEMITE and cheese pizza, and we're excited to be able to offer this unique combination to 'HAPPY LITTLE VEGEMITES' right here at home.
The concept came about after the Pizza giant received large numbers of requests asking for the combination when they posted saying "would you give this a try". It turns out it was a resounding YES and now hungry Aussies can finally try it for themselves and find out if their taste buds agree with 12,000 comments and 30,000 likes.
VEGEMITE this week appointed a new ambassador, Giovanni from Rosa’s Pizza in New York, who has added the iconic taste of Australia to his menu. Domino’s ANZ Chief Marketing Officer Adam Ballesty said it’s only fitting that we return Australia’s favourite flavour to the heartland and ensure everyone can share in the joy of this perfect pairing.
“It’s great to see Americans enjoying what we here in Oz know to be true – that VEGEMITE can go on just about anything!
“There’s something so quintessentially Aussie about a VEGEMITE and cheese pizza, and we’re excited to be able to offer this unique combination to customers right here at home,” Mr Ballesty said.
“To this day, we still receive messages from customers asking us to make this combination a reality and at Domino’s… we always deliver!”
You can get one for around $7.95 but if you want a Vegan Cheesy Vegemite Pizza it's $2.95 extra and probably worth ordering online as it's a bit of a tongue twister.
Let's hope it puts a rose in every cheek.
