Carmel Bird is an Australian literary legend. The Central Victorian is a writer of fiction, non-fiction, and children's books, editor, teacher, essayist, reviewer, and memoirist. 2016 saw her receive the Patrick White Award, which acknowledges writers who have made a significant contribution to Australian literature.
