Toy Story, Zootopia and Frozen sequels are coming!

It’s a happy day when you discover a favourite movie is getting a sequel, and today Disney surprised us with not one but THREE new sequel announcements.

Get ready for Toy Story 5, Frozen 3 and Zootopia 2.

“Today I’m so pleased to announce that we have sequels in the works from our animation studios to some of our most popular franchises, Toy Story, Frozen and Zootopia,” Disney CEO Bob Iger said. “This is a great example of how we’re leaning into our unrivaled brands and franchises.”

We don’t have details about casts, plots or release dates yet, but hopefully there’ll be news soon.

Disney’s most recent films haven’t earned well at the box office – we’re looking at you Strange World – so it makes sense for them to continue with their most popular franchises, which are all Oscar winners by the way.

Toy Story is, of course, a classic, with the first movie hitting our screens in 1995 and the fourth landing in 2019 and earning itself an Oscar for Best Animated Feature. Last year’s 2022 Lightyear movie was a bit of a miss, so a fifth Toy Story will put the storyline back on track.

Frozen was released in 2013 and was an instant hit thanks to the strong female leads, the twist on the usual romantic plot and the antics of Olaf. After winning an Oscar for Best Animated Feature as well as for the song “Let It Go” (you’re singing it in your head right now, aren’t you?), it took six years to get a sequel.

Zootopia’s anthromorphic animal story featuring a determined bunny and a con artist fox (also from the creators of Frozen) was released in 2016 and won an Oscar for Best Animated Feature Film. A spin-off series has kept fans happy so it’s great to see it getting another movie.

We can’t wait to see what the sequels bring! And hopefully the wait won’t feel like that DMV scene from Zootopia!
