It’s the movie that everybody is talking about since the trailer dropped and questions have been swirling around how much of this movie that’s ‘based on a true story’ is actually true?

Now if you’re one of the few that hasn’t heard of this movie or even seen the trailer, here it is.

The storyline of the movie according to IMDB is “An oddball group of cops, criminals, tourists, and teens converge in a Georgia forest where a 500-pound black bear goes on a murderous rampage after unintentionally ingesting cocaine.”

The thing that has caught everyone’s attention is that in the trailer we are told that the movie is based on a true story, so we are here to tell you what is and isn’t factual.

The story centres around Andrew Thornton, who was a narcotics officer and lawyer turned leader of a drug-smuggling ring in Kentucky known as ‘The Company’.

While returning from Colombia, Thornton threw bags full of the drug from his plane near Blairsville in Georgia before he also jumped from the auto-piloted plane. However, Thornton’s body was later found in the driveway of a Knoxville resident where the Georgia Bureau of Investigations believe that he may have hit his head on the tail of the plane and then failed to open his parachute before plummeting to the ground.

In the following, as part of the investigation, the flightpath of Thornton’s plane was tracked and along the path officers discovered infamous 175-pound black bear dead in the Chattahoochee National Forest after overdosing, having ingested one of the 10 bags full of the drugs which was estimated to be 70 pounds or 31 kg’s of cocaine. The above is all true!

Now this is where the film strays from the truth, instead of the bear being found deceased, the movie then takes a dark turn when bear goes on a drug fuelled rampage through the surrounding forrest, dismembering everything in it’s sights.

The famous bear dubbed ‘Pablo Eskobear’ has since been stuffed and can now be seen at the Kentucky For Kentucky store in Lexington.
